I don’t know why I have this love for board games. I’ve always enjoyed just sitting down and spending some time with people playing a game. The chatting was always nice and it felt good to be able to have… what most people would call… social friends.
These days though, I don’t really have anyone close enough to me to play games with. I have friends on the other side of the state… on the border… In other countries… so it makes it hard to just be able to have that social time with an actual human.
This is where I admit… I really like Scrabble.
And, don’t get the wrong idea. It’s not just Scrabble… There’s UpWords and Boggle… and I’m going to stop listing them now because it’s probably going to get embarrassing… But I have them all and I love them… I just never get to play them. Spelling games and me… a match made in heaven for some reason. I just enjoy playing them.
I’ve been exploring Discord activities recently… I’ve played Blazing 8’s with a young kid in the US – and he gets ever so mad when I beat him and say it’s satisfying… and this drawing game – which full disclosure… terrible artist; don’t ask me to draw anything. And then… spelling games….
So this morning, I’m so excited to tell you… I played faux-scrabble on Discord with a friend and it was amazing. We got to chat about our lives – which honestly, we were going to do anyway – but we also got to play a game that we both loved… and haven’t played in quite some time.
I find it weird that I get excited over being able to play it when I literally have Scrabble in my house… right now. I can see it… but I never play it. But Letter League is a suitable replacement – and has some great modes to get more bonuses; because who doesn’t love extra points?!
Today’s game ended in 583 vs 524 (I think?) which was a really close match. She had some amazing words – like aioli when she only had repeating vowels... – and I made some strategic words – like zees for 46 points. We had a lot of fun and I am looking forward to doing it again… soon.
Till next time.
