I don’t even know where to begin with this one…
Bloodshot is a comic book-inspired theatrical film released in 2020. It is the first film based on Valiant Comics IP and they claim the poor opening figures were due to coronavirus. HA.
Interestingly, I can’t actually tell you the specific details of the origin story for the character as I honestly gave up on the film very shortly after starting it. I watched it but I gotta say, it was a waste.
Enjoy my misery and let’s watch the trailer…
Now, if you have never seen Robocop, well then maybe you’ll have a different opinion than I do.
I know that Vin Diesel plays a cop who is killed, made into a cyborg kind of thing and then, apparently five years later, comes back to find out he’s now made of machines and his missus has moved on. Sound familiar?
I still think you should watch this film, if only to understand why you shouldn’t see any more of them. Originally there were talks that the main character would be played by Jared Leto. This was the first, and last time I heard any news about this film; mostly because I thought Jared Leto is gonna fuck up another character. So I pushed this film from my mind.
Now that it’s been released, it’s clear that Jared Leto would have made a fantastic Bloodshot dude.
But Vin Diesel plays the hero. He is already buff, so there is no Captain America-style ‘fight’ to be accepted as a superhero – he’s buff, so he’s the hero. I feel the series is trying to take advantage of the current comic book resurgence, but poorly.
A character that already looks like he can bend a car in half doesn’t really make a believable superhero. It’s the same reason why Captain America was CGI’d to make the transition smoother.
The relationships are unresolved, something I assume will be fixed in future poorly executed sequels. I hope this is a case of Aliens 2, and not Anchorman 2 – its not the Ron Burgandy we want or need right now.
When I watched this movie, I didn’t feel connected to the characters. Perhaps that is because I don’t think I would have liked Bloodshot as a comic book hero but I haven’t read it so I actually don’t know. This is a bit weird because Bloodshot is one of the most popular characters in the 80 million comic-selling Valiant Universe. How have I not come across this before!?
Can you believe that Bloodshot has sold over 7 million comics in all languages? It makes me wonder how the movie ended up so…. unappealing.
Perhaps that’s just because I wasn’t the viewing audience they were after, I don’t know.
Blood Shot is a movie you should watch; if nothing else is on. It’s rated M, so it’s not really suitable for little ones and the film is aimed at mainly teenage boys and men. It runs for about just under 2 hours so it’s quite the commitment during the week, although I’d doubt you’d be upset if you fell asleep during it… I wouldn’t recommend it for a night you want to get it on, but I think it would make an interesting background film for a night with friends – where the film does not matter as much as the company and the food.
Bloodshot #1 was a much anticipated comic that became a best selling issue and has gone on to sell approximately 1 million copies. It isn’t just a best selling issue – Bloodshot #1 was awarded “Best Comic” by Diamond Distributors (the American comics industry’s leading distributor) and “Best Innovation” for its chromium cover (the first of its kind).
I honestly think that this is just a movie. I’m not particularly encouraged to watch it again, even though one day I might. I expect the next time I see this film I’ll be in a crappy motel and it’ll be on free-to-air TV.
Oh my gosh – did you know that Michael Sheen was originally set for Dr. Emil Harting, but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts? There seems to be a lot of that these days!
Anyway… Bloodshot is a movie. Should you watch it? That’s really your call. Got teenagers who like Vin Diesel? They might really enjoy this one. If you miss your girlfriends and want to lure them for a few hours of chatting, food and drinks; chuck it on in the background for your husband and his mates to enjoy. It’ll keep them occupied, they’ll have a movie to talk about and you’ll get to hang out and gossip with your friends!
Till next time.
also…. trailer for number 2 – so – I called it. FML.
